This piece is from the first exhibition in the Autumn Term 2023. In this painting I have changed the colours to ones that you might not normally expect to see (such as the yellow sky and river) but that I feel have a personal connection to my experience of living and studying in Reading. While each colour could be seen to have its own ‘fixed’ meaning, to me the colour green signifies the growth in my independence and hope of doing well at university, while the colours yellow and orange represents happiness. In contrast red symbolises love and excitement, whilst blue reflects my more tranquil times. The incorporation of the River Kennet in the painting links to fact that water is associated with emotions, and I explore emotions through my choice of colours.
